Supported Housing Week is a chance to celebrate the difference supported housing makes to people's lives. Across JRHT's supported living communities, residents have access to safe, affordable homes alongside tailored support that helps them maintain their independence, health and wellbeing. This story highlights how the right home and support can help people live well and thrive.
Chafik moved into Hartfields in 2024 and quickly became an active and valued member of the community.
Living with significant health conditions and requiring permanent oxygen therapy meant having a safe and supportive home environment was essential to his health and wellbeing.
From the outset, colleagues work closely with Chafik to ensure appropriate safety measures were in place. Information is recorded to support emergency services if required, and plans are in place to prioritise him in emergencies or in an event of a power outage.
These arrangements provide reassurance for both Chafik and his family while enabling him to continue living independently in his own home.
Despite his health challenges, Chafik leads a busy and fulfilling life. He enjoys spending time in the Atrium talking to friends and participating in community events.
When unexpected financial difficulties arose due to unpaid utility bills, colleagues acted quickly to help. Working with the utility provider and alongside Chafik, they were able to arrange a manageable repayment plan and reduce the stress associated with the situation.
Having trusted support available meant the issue could be resolved before it escalated further, allowing Chafik to focus on his health and quality of life.
For Chafik, supported housing provides the foundation for him to live independently while knowing practical help and advice is available if challenges arise.
As Supported Housing Week highlights, everyone deserves a home that supports their health, wellbeing and independence. Chafik's story shows how supported housing can provide that foundation, helping people remain in control of their lives while knowing practical help and support are there when needed.
