More than 1,700 people came together on Saturday 18 July for this year’s Party in the Park in New Earswick, making it our biggest and most successful event yet.
Families, friends and neighbours enjoyed a fantastic day of free activities and entertainment. There was something for everyone to enjoy. Children climbed the giant inflatable obstacle course, learnt new circus skills, had their faces painted and got creative making animal masks.
The ever-popular Puddle Duck made a special appearance, while younger children enjoyed a taster session of Baby Ballet. Rotary’s much-loved Splat the Rat, and spectacular aerial performances kept the crowds entertained throughout the day.
Live music created a brilliant atmosphere with performances from Rock Choir, Blue Light Theatre and Bargestra keeping the party going all afternoon.
Many people also stopped by our information stall to chat to our teams and find out more about the support and activities available in the community. Meanwhile, the Folk Hall café served burgers and other party favourites. While Galloping Dough and Schmoozy’s ice creams helped keep everyone well fed and cool throughout the day.
The tombola stalls proved popular as ever, with one selling out completely thanks to the generosity of local prize donors and the enthusiasm of everyone who took part.
More than anything, Party by the Park was about bringing people together. It was wonderful to see families, spending time together, neighbours catching up and children trying new activities in a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment.
One family who attended summed up the day perfectly: “It’s great to see a free community event where families can come in the summer holidays and have fun with their children without having to worry about spending loads of money. It was a great event and my kids really loved trying the circus skills and zorbing, even grandad got his face painted!”
Events like Party in the Park wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support of our volunteers, performers, local organisations, colleagues from Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and everyone who came along to join in. Thank you for helping to make the day such a great success.
