Residents across the Victoria Geldof community have once again shown their creativity, hard work and community spirit through this year’s resident-led Garden Competition organised by the Victoria Geldof Community Group. Residents entered their gardens into one of the four categories:
- Best overall garden (front or back)
- Best garden for wildlife
- Best garden for children
- Best pots and planters
Guided by Nik, one of the community group’s lead residents, the judges visited a variety of gardens across the neighbourhood. Along the way, they enjoyed colourful flower displays, beautifully maintained outdoor spaces, family-friendly gardens and areas created to support wildlife.
Nicky Colley-Samuels, Housing Officer, who helped judge this year’s competition said: “The range of gardens blew us away, and the care and commitment residents had put into creating them. Every garden had its own unique character, and it was particularly encouraging to see how many residents had created spaces that support birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife. These gardens are helping to make the community greener and more welcoming for nature."
The standard was extremely high, and judging was not easy. After much discussion, the panel chose a winner from each category.
- Best overall garden: Charles (Disraeli Close), Juliet (Homestead Close) & Debbie (Geldof Road)
- Best garden for wildlife: Phil & Maureen (Homestead Close)
- Best garden for children: Syed (Birch Park)
- Best pots and planters: Carrie (Geldof Road), Abdul (Homestead Close)
A huge thank you to all the residents who welcomed the judges into their homes and gardens, and to the Victoria Geldof Community Group for organising a wonderful event which brings the community together.
