Our Values Champions recognition scheme celebrates people who demonstrate one or more of our values and go above and beyond to support others and bring our values to life.
Stephen O'Neill, Hartrigg Oaks
Stephen is a familiar face to many residents at Hartrigg Oaks. Known for his warmth, humour and willingness to help, he regularly supports residents in practical and meaningful ways.
Whether helping a family after the loss of a loved one, leading activities, supporting the pantry or bringing festive cheer as Father Christmas, Stephen is always ready to lend a hand and help others feel connected and supported.
Karen Howden, Plaxton Court
Karen has been recognised for her commitment to making Plaxton Court more accessible and inclusive.
After learning that members of the monthly NHS Stoma support group found the communal toilets difficult to use, Karen took the initiative to find a solution.
She is working with the group's Stoma nurse to adapt the existing facilities, a change which will make visiting the group more comfortable and accessible for those attending the group.
Lisa Powton, Volunteer at Hartfields
Lisa is a dedicated volunteer at Hartfields' popular Nostalgia events.
From serving refreshments to encouraging residents to join in activities, Lisa's enthusiasm helps create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Often dressing up to match the event theme, she brings energy and positivity to every session.
Clare Ahmad, Nik Milner and Jon Reeton, volunteers and residents
Clare, Nik and Jon were recognised for their contribution to JRHT's involvement in York Pride.
Clare helped run the stand, speaking with visitors and helping to showcase JRHT's commitment to inclusion and belonging. While Nik and Jon took part in the march representing JRHT and helping to create a welcome presence on the day.
Helen Lawrence, Executive Assistant
Helen was recognised for her work supporting the recruitment of several key roles at JRHT. Working behind the scenes, she coordinated interview arrangements, supported colleagues throughout the process and responded quickly when unexpected challenges arose. Her organisation and commitment helped ensure everything ran smoothly.
Andrea Hood, Customer Access Advisor
Andrea was nominated for supporting a resident through an urgent repair issue affecting children with additional needs.
When the usual repair process wasn’t available, Andrea worked hard to find an alternative, arranging a next-day appointment with an external contractor and keeping the resident informed throughout. Her determination helped solve an issue as quickly as possible.

Next round of nominations
Nominations for the next round of Values Champions are now open and close on 31 October. We encourage residents, colleagues, volunteers, and community members to nominate those who embody the organisation’s values and make a difference in their community.
If you know someone whose efforts deserve recognition, whether an individual, team or group – celebrate them by submitting a nomination. Every nomination helps us to recognise the people who make our communities stronger, kinder and more connected. You can submit nominations by completing this online form.
