This article includes important national benefit changes and new support that may affect households across York, North Yorkshire and Hartlepool.

Final phase of legacy benefit migration

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is sending out the final migration letters to people who are receiving legacy benefits. These include:

  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Tax Credits
  • Housing Benefit

If you receive a letter and apply for Universal Credit before the deadline, you may be able to receive help called transition protection. This helps to prevent a drop in your income during the move from one benefit to another.

We will keep residents updated as soon as further information becomes available.
