During 2022, JRHT built and designed a new website following a short discovery phase of research which involved engaging residents to find out what they want, what they use and their opinions on the previous website.
The new website was launched in December 2022. In January, JRHT were awarded the top rating of 1st place for the most accessible Housing Association website by the Silktide Index.
The Silktide Index is used to evaluate the web accessibility of worldwide organisations from both public and private organisations. Each organisation is assigned a score based on their level of compliance with the globally recognised standard for web accessibility, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Daniel Wigglesworth, Head of Digital Products for Joseph Rowntree Foundation said “I am really pleased that the JRHT website received top ranking for accessibility.
“Over half of our residents identify as being disabled. We designed the new site making accessibility a key principle from the outset. Making our website more accessible means that more people can easily use and access JRHT services.
“I would like to thank all residents and colleagues who supported this project without their input it would not have been possible to secure this top ranking.”
