Brenda Boyes

JRHT Board Member

Hello, I’m Brenda Boyes, a Business Support Officer, part time. I’m a Londoner & my parents (sadly deceased) were from the Windrush Generation.

My work experience has been representing union members have access to all the help, information, and guidance they need regarding issues such as working conditions, pay, health and safety, equal opportunities, and employment law. I also have experience as a Mental Capacity & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Support Officer. I provided a high quality, effective and efficient administrative & secretarial support for the Service Manager Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards; thus, provided additional support within the Safeguarding Adults Service including responding appropriately to a wide range of enquiries. An important role in upholding the human rights of residents in care homes and hospitals. As a DoLS coordinator, my role was unique as it combined business support with specialist DoLS legislative knowledge. I was also a Celebration Officer, which I officiated & registered civil marriages and civil partnership at the Registered office and approved premises.

My knowhow lies in communication: verbal, writing, and presentation abilities are vital for having a good relationship with my colleagues, residents, and our community working efficiently, and solving problems in all aspects in my professional & personal life.

Outside of work I enjoy walks with my wife, cooking & family time. I have a healthy marriage with Jo (Yorkshire lass). My 3 adult children are productive & well rounded.

What Motivates me: Coming up with creative ideas to improve something or make something new. Analysing complex data to draw clear and simple conclusions. To connect & explore opportunities to collaborate.

My Weakness: Being too honest. Hard time letting go of tasks until finished. Giving myself a hard time. Too critical of yourself.

My Strengths: My drive and willingness to learn.

Finally, my work & personal life’s ethos. Are two quotes from the late:

“To thine own self be true' is a line from Act 1 scene 3 of Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.

William Shakespeare was a renowned English poet, playwright, and actor born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He died on April 23, 1616.

Dr Maya Angelou (born April 4, 1928, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.- Died May 28, 2014) was an American poet, memoirist, and Actress.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” Dr Maya Angelou
