Garages and allotments

Share

Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust residents can register for the use of garages and allotments in some of our communities.

Garages

Garages

There are 271 garages in various parts of our New Earswick and Clifton communities in York. Garage rent charges change each year and we review rent charges every April. If you are not a JRHT (or Clifton estate) resident, you will have to pay a slightly higher rent.

We keep a waiting list of residents interested in renting a garage which you can register your name on. We deal with registrations on a highest points (and then date of registration) basis. Priority is given to Disable Badge holders (15 points). Then those living in a property that you can’t drive a vehicle to or park at (10 points). Then those who are not currently garage tenants (5 points).

Do you already have a garage but would like a second garage? Or would you like to transfer to one more suitable for your needs? You can still register to join the garage waiting list or complete a ‘garage mutual exchange’ form.

A tenant in rent arrears (house or garage rent account) can join the garage waiting list. However, it is unlikely you'll be offered a garage unless the rent arrears are cleared or are being regularly reduced.

To register for a garage or to get a copy of the ‘garage mutual exchange’ form please contact us.

Allotments

Allotments

We have 30 allotments at two sites in New Earswick – Willow Bank and Sleeper Path. Plots are allocated in date order from the register of applicants held at The Garth. Priority will be given to full owners and part owners of New Earswick properties. This is because they pay the Village Scheme Charge, which includes upkeep of the allotment sites.

For an application form and terms and conditions please contact us.
