Daily walks and fresh air

One of the things that has kept many people going during the past year has been a daily walk and fresh air. Even it’s just for 10 minutes around the block, it’s that change of scenery and just seeing how the seasons change can be good for our mental health.

Walking can provide us with so many benefits:

  • Improve the quality of your sleep.
  • Calm your nerves, and help you feel less stressed.
  • Improve your general mood and wellbeing.
  • Boost your energy and increase your stamina.
  • Reduce tiredness.
  • Improve your fitness by reducing cholesterol and improving your cardiovascular health.

Now that restrictions have been eased, why not invite a friend to join you. Walking with others can have enormous benefits. It combines physical exercise with positive social interactions can really lift your mood, ward off depression, and generally improve your self-esteem.

Visit York has some lovely walks on their website, from family walks to specific trails. Some walks are self-guided, and others are guided with a small fee.

Family friendly walks less than an hour from Leeds

Leeds List has a few family friendly walks which are less than hour from Leeds.

The North Yorkshire County Council has a list of walks in or near Scarborough ranging from 0.5mils to 5 miles.

Walks near Hartlepool

Hartlepool Borough Council has a list of walks ranging from 2.5 miles to just over 6 miles.
