The Money and Benefits Team have been busy supporting residents to claim back £400 towards their energy bills.

So far, the team have been able to support residents to claim £50,400 from the Energy Bills Support Scheme.

The Energy Bills Support Scheme was launched by the Government to help residents with the rising costs of energy.  For most residents, the £400 would be directly credited to their energy account.

However, for residents who did not have a direct relationship with an energy supplier - there was no way to receive the payment.

At the end of February, the government set up a portal so these residents could claim back the payment of £400. We wrote to residents explaining the process but asked them to contact us if they needed support.

The Housing Officers received lots of requests for help from residents particularly from residents living in Hartfields.

During March, Sarah Pennock, Marissa Ward (Money and Benefit Advisors) and Steph Smart (Housing Officer) held a drop-in session at Hartfields in Hartlepool to support residents with their applications.

Sarah Pennock, Money and Benefits Advisor said “It was a very busy day with over 70 residents dropping in. It has been fantastic to be able to help so many residents to claim back money toward their energy bills. With the rising cost of living, it is even more important that residents can be supported to claim money which they are entitled to.”
