School holidays are a time for children to relax, have fun, and explore new experiences.  It can also be a challenging time for families – trying to find affordable exciting and fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

Over the summer holidays, colleagues from the communities' team in York have been running activities for families.

This year, we held two sessions for families - one focused on crafts and the other fitness. Each of the activities included a pack up lunch and hot meal to take home for everyone who attended.

  • Fitness – a fun fitness session which included a brief introduction to kick boxing.
  • Woodcraft -a session which introduced Woodcraft Folk.

Emma Green, Community Development Officer said, “It was lovely to see some familiar faces as some families returned for these sessions. It’s an opportunity for us to get to know families a bit more and for them to get to know each other. Both were very active sessions where children could have fun and burn off some energy when the weather outside wasn’t that great.”

Thank you so much. A lovely activity and so nice to get food too.” Resident whose child attended the event

Lovely social event for children. Great Opportunity for the children to try new activities. Providing food has taken the pressure off through the holiday.” Resident whose child attended the event.
