A pop-up street market on the sleeper path at New Earswick is proving to be a big hit with residents since it launched in August last year.
The Sleeper Market, organised by the New Earswick Residents Forum (NERF), takes place on the first Sunday of every month from 10am until 2.30pm. A wide range of locally produced food, crafts and gifts are available, and The Hound Lounge coffee house is open throughout. This is a fantastic local initiative and a great way to show case the talent right on our doorstep.
Geoff Bunce, chair of NERF, said: “The idea for the market came from staff at The Hound Lounge, who were keen to work with us to enhance the local surroundings and create a community get together. NERF agreed to take the project on. We quickly realised that there is more to running a market than we realised! But with help from the community, particularly two residents Shona and Andrea who curate and coordinate the market, it has gone from strength to strength. More and more stallholders are joining us, meaning we have an increasingly wide range of goods on sale.
“This project is a great example of residents and JRHT working together to provide a facility that the community have asked for and appreciate. Long may it prosper. Please come down and support the market if you can – without you, it just wouldn’t be possible.”
The sleeper path market takes place on the first Sunday of every month (except January) from 10am to 2.30pm. For more information and updates, visit the dedicated Facebook page.
