Help with housing costs

If your rent is increasing, please take the following action.

Inform DWP to get an increase in Universal credit

If you are in receipt of Universal Credit (UC) you will need to provide confirmation to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) straight away so that your increased rent costs can be taken into account and your housing allowance increased. You can use the letter from JRHT giving notice of the rent increase to upload to your Universal Credit log.

If this is a worry or you need help to manage this process contact your Housing Officer.

Free money and benefit advice is available to maximise your income and help reduce costs. Visit JRHT Money, advice and debt page for resources to support working out a new budget and finding out if there are other benefits you may be entitled to claim.

You can also talk to Martin Bell, Money and Benefits Adviser. He can support you to check if you are entitled to any other benefits, help with discretionary housing allowance and advise on ways to reduce other costs like fuel bills.

Talk to your housing officer

We know that residents may be experiencing difficult financial situations as a result of the pandemic and current the lockdown so it is important to keep in touch with your housing officer if you are worried about paying your rent. They can also talk to you about your household income, arrangements to help you pay your rent and signpost you to other support.
