Our Money, Benefits and Debt Advice service is an important service which is well used by our residents. Over the past 6 months, we have seen a rapid increase in the number of residents accessing the service. To ensure that we can continue to support residents, we have expanded our Money, Benefits and Debt Advice Team.

Welcome Sarah Pennock, our new Money, Benefits and Debt Advice Advisor

Sarah joined JRHT in May to support with the increased demand for the Money, Benefits and Debt Advice service by residents. Sarah will work alongside Martin Bell our existing Money, Benefits and Debt Advice Advisor.

Prior to joining JRHT, Sarah worked as a Money Adviser for Citizens Advice York, gaining extensive experience of, and assisting people with; benefit claims, budgeting support and debt management issues.

Advice and support

Throughout the pandemic, our Money, Benefits and Debt Advice Team have continued to provide an effective service over the telephone, taking referrals from our colleagues within housing when a resident had concerns about their finances. With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, it is hoped that the service will be expanded to include face to face support in the near future.

Sarah explains that “many people struggle to manage a budget without realising additional financial support could be available to them and even if they do, the current systems are not always easy to understand and/or navigate. This issue has been particularly relevant during the pandemic but will continue to apply subsequently. For that reason, it is important for people with concerns about money to obtain advice as soon as possible. We are here to help so please do not hesitate to get in touch with any queries.”

The service is also available to colleagues working for Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) and Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF).
