Over the past 12 months, colleagues from JRHT have been working with residents living in homes in Sturdee Grove and Mistral Court in York to develop plans for building 10 new and affordable homes within the community.

An initial public consultation was held in March 2022 which generated lots of useful feedback. It also highlighted concerns from residents about the existing community centre – residents felt it was not big enough to accommodate additional residents.

We have been working together with residents and have now submitted a planning application to extend the existing community centre. The residents also expressed their views about ensuring that the tree located near the community centre was kept. We have managed to adapt our plans so the tree will remain in situ.

Nicky Smith, Assistant Development Project Manager said “I am delighted that we have been able to act on the feedback received from residents. When developing plans for new homes, we always try hard to integrate these homes into the existing community. This is a great example of how residents feedback has shaped our plans but also provided a better facility for our residents.”

Both the planning application for the new homes and extension to the community centre have been submitted to the City of York Council. We look forward to receiving a decision shortly.
