New Lodge will address the growing demand in the area for flexible, high quality care services for residents. It will allow those who wish to downsize into smaller, supported accommodation to do so. This will free up larger homes for young, growing families.
Modern and spacious, New Lodge will have 105 one and two bedroomed Extra Care suites. There will be 45 one bedroomed residential care suites. It will have an emphasis on sustainability. Two blocks of apartments will be designed to provide flexible accommodation. They will be able to respond to residents care needs as these change.
New Lodge is designed, developed, and delivered in line with the original ethos of New Earswick. It will allow JRHT to provide a decent, affordable housing scheme. One which will maintain its usefulness to residents in different stages of their lives.
New Lodge will also include facilities such as a hairdresser, lounge, laundry and guest room. There will be communal dining areas available. Residents will also be able to utilise new dining facilities at New Earswick Folk Hall.
The wider development will see a number of positive changes to the village, including:
- Relocating the Multi Use Games Area to the “Rec” on the green by the Primary School.
- Developing new and safe public spaces for play and leisure around the village.
- Refurbishing the New Earswick Folk Hall to create a fit-for-purpose centre for the community. This will include a new eatery and the welcome addition of the Explore library.
- New tennis courts for the New Earswick Tennis club.
- A new sports court, over at the New Earswick Sports Club.
The Trust is pleased to have appointed contractor Wates Residential. The development is expected to take up to three years.
JRHT have appointed a dedicated Community Engagement Officer, Stacey Parry. Stacey will work within the local area and provide information and support for tenants, their families and local stakeholders. The Community Engagement role will see Stacey link the Trust and the appointed contractor with local people. This will ensure effective communication between all parties.
JRHT and the building contractor will also be holding a series of community events. This will give residents the chance to find out more and discuss the plans directly.
The role also involves working closely with local schools. This will ensure site safety is reiterated to all age groups. It will also see a range of opportunities around careers, construction and apprenticeships created during the development.
Accommodation at New Lodge will be modern with a high-quality finish. All properties are built to a national Lifetime Homes standard. This means that all our properties are wheelchair accessible and can easily accommodate aids and adaptations.
There will be 105 one and two bedroom Extra Care Suites. These will be flexible and mean that couples can remain together if one partner becomes frail. The level of care and support you need can be assessed and provided. We foster an environment of supported independence. Residents can take advantage of the social and leisure opportunities provided by the Trust.
There will also be 45 one bedroom Residential Care suites. These will have a spacious bedroom, sitting room and wet room with a warden call facility.
