Fortnight over a year

Shrub beds

  • one application per annum of pre-emergent herbicide spray
  • beds kept weed free by additional hoeing or spraying as necessary
  • one fertiliser application March to May- additional mid season application if weather permits
  • shrubs pruned on a rotational basis to encourage flowering etc. or to keep paths, access ways, car parks, signage and windows clear, or to maintain tidy appearance after flowering (e.g. Hydrangea, Hebe).
  • Additional pruning and replacement of shrubs requested by residents and agreed with Parks and Gardens Dept.

Rose beds

  • application of fertiliser / herbicide as above. Additional fertiliser applications if weather permits
  • roses kept weed free as above
  • roses pruned in period February to March
  • roses regularly deadheaded in growing season, (at every visit)
  • roses reduced in height in November
  • one or two sprays per annum on roses to control pest and disease as required

In addition to the above, where there are bulbs in the shrub/rose beds they will be deadheaded as appropriate and dying foliage removed as necessary.

  • climbing roses to be pruned in period February to March, ties to be checked and replaced as required.

Grass

  • reform grass edges as required using half moon or similar implement, before first cut of season
  • grassed areas cut once per fortnight during growing season. Grass not to exceed 5 cm in height
  • edges to paths and beds are trimmed as necessary
  • grass areas missed by machinery (e.g. around trees) are cut by hand, or sprayed off or strimmed
  • wall bases to be kept clean by spraying a narrow mowing strip
  • two applications per annum of a selective herbicide to control weeds.

Hedges

  • conifer hedges to be cut once per annum
  • Ivy on boundary walls to be cut back below height of walls

Trees

  • stakes and ties to be checked once per annum and removed/replaced as necessary
  • limited thinning and pruning of selected trees to be carried out on an annual basis as requested by residents and agreed with Parks and Gardens
  • condition of trees to be checked visually annually
  • additional tree work as necessary, including removal of damaged branches

Footpaths/ car parks

  • hard areas to be cleaned and maintained weed free as required.

Leaf clearance

  • site to be periodically cleaned of leaves
  • shrub beds to be cleared of leaves at end of season

Drying area

  • drying areas to be kept weed free, leaves litter and twigs removed as required
  • climbing plants on trellis work to be kept tied in and not allowed to obstruct entrance or to encroach onto drying areas

Litter

  • litter to be picked up at every visit from grassed areas, shrub beds and hard surfaces (car parks and footpaths)

Salting

  • refilling of salt bins

All arisings hedge clippings, rubbish will be removed from the site.
