Fortnightly visits during the year

Shrub beds:

  • one application per annum of pre-emergent herbicide spray
  • beds kept weed free by additional hoeing or spraying as necessary
  • fertiliser applied March to May - additional mid se ason application if weather permits
  • shrubs pruned on a rotational basis to encourage flowering, or to keep paths, access ways and windows clear, to maintain tidy appearance after flowering. To include two cuts per annum to shrubs on access road to Dower Court to keep sight lines clear
  • additional pruning work as requested by residents and agreed with Parks & Gardens Department
  • some replacement of shrubs as necessary with agreement of residents

Rose beds/perennial plants:

  • application of fertiliser/herbicide as above. Additional fertiliser applications if weather permits
  • Roses kept weed free as above
  • Roses pruned in period February/March
  • Roses regularly deadheaded in growing season
  • Roses reduced in height in December.
  • one or two sprays per annum to control pest and disease as required

In addition to the above, where there are bulbs in shrub/rose beds they will be deadheaded as appropriate and dying foliage removed.

  • perennial plants kept weed free
  • foliage of certain perennials (eg Geranium endressii) removed after flowering to encourage new growth and flowering
  • old foliage removed at end of season
  • division and replanting of certain plants every three to five years

Grass

  • cut once per fortnight during growing season. Approx 16 cuts per annum
  • all clipping removed
  • edges to paths are trimmed as necessary
  • grass missed by machinery (eg around trees) are cut by hand, or sprayed off or strimmed
  • wall bases to be kept clean by spraying a narrow mowing strip
  • grassed field at bottom of Dower Court to be cut once per month in the growing season, arisings left on
  • bulbs growing in grassed area - foliage to be left to die naturally then grass given first cut (normally June). All arisings from first cut to be removed, then commence normal cutting regime.

Hedges

  • boundary hedges (thorn) are to to be cut once per annum (all arisings to be removed)
  • conifer and beech hedgings to be cut once per annum (all arisings to be removed)Tree stakes and ties to be checked once per annum and removed/replaced as necessary
  • thinning and pruning of selected trees to be carried out on an annual basis
  • condition of trees to be visually checked and reported annually
  • additional tree work as necessary, including removal of damaged branches

Sweeping/spraying - footpaths/carparks

  • hard areas to be swept and maintained weed free as required
