This information sets out our Accessible information policy, which ensures the information we provide is accessible to all residents by ensuring you can easily:

  • obtain information
  • obtain it in your preferred way or format
  • understand it, and
  • reach it physically

Our aims are to:

  • remove barriers to accessing information wherever possible
  • comply with all legal duties and responsibilities in terms of access to information
  • ensure all our staff are aware of the options for the provision of information and promote those options to residents

Preferred format?

We provide a range of translation and interpretation services, and can provide information in different formats and languages other than English.

Languages other than English

Telephone interpretation - if you contact us by telephone we can access a telephone translation service whilst you are on the line.

Face to face interpretation - if you have an appointment to discuss a specific issue we can arrange to have an interpreter present.

Translations

We can translate written information into languages other than English on request. This will take approximately 1 week.

Other formats

Large print

All standard letters and information are provided in print size 14. However, if you require information in a larger print size than this, please ask. If you do not know what print size you require, the information will be provided in print size 18.

Braille

Information is available in Braille. This will take approximately 2 weeks.

Audio tape

Information can be made available on tape. This will take approximately 2 weeks.

Type talk

For people who have a hearing impairment and contact us by telephone, we can access type talk.

Signers

If you would prefer a signer to be present at an appointment, please let us know in advance and we can arrange this. This may take some time subject to availability; however, we will arrange this at the earliest possible opportunity.

Symbols

Information is available in symbolic language. This will take approximately 2 weeks.

How do we make sure you can understand it?

In 2005 the Residents Editorial Panel was established. The panel is a group of residents who look at information before we send it out to make sure it is clear, jargon free and easy to understand.
