Dear Mrs Hubbard,
Please find our
response to your letter dated 27th May 2008 to Neil Humphries regarding the
potential alternative traffic route from the east at Derwenthorpe.
Whilst the two variations to the eastern route shown
on drawings 14 and 15 supplied show that there would be slightly less impact on
hedgerows compared to the option on drawing 13, there would be no change to the
potential impact on protected species. There are a number of ponds to the north
and south of the disused railway and there are records of great crested newts
from 2004. Pond surveys for great crested newts should be undertaken between
March - mid June, with two of the minimum four surveys between mid April - mid
May. Clearly this period has now lapsed and negative results not now acceptable.
The next survey period is spring 2009.
Regards
Paul Benyon
