We have more than 20 years experience
specialising in the provision of services to adults with learning
difficulties or physical impairments and own and manage four
residential homes within the Vale of York.
Although each home is unique, they all share certain
characteristics, including our philosophy on facilitating
independence, delivering the highest standards in quality care and
support and providing opportunities to participate in varied social
activities and events.
Accommodation
Each resident has their own single room, with either a fitted
hand basin or an en suite bathroom, with level access shower. The
rooms are fully furnished to each individual's personal choice.
All our facilities have been designed and fitted with the
residents' needs in mind to create a 'homely' living environment.
All have large comfortable lounge/dining rooms, designated areas
for activities, plus communal kitchens where residents can prepare
meals and other refreshments if they wish. In addition, three of
the homes also have a large conservatory. Meals are provided with
individual tastes catered for and visitors are welcome at all
times.
The fire precautions and associated emergency procedures comply
fully with all statutory requirements.
Activities
Residents are actively encouraged to pursue their own interests
and hobbies. In addition, there are plenty of opportunities to
socialise and a comprehensive range of activities and outings are
organised for the enjoyment of residents. Typical examples
are given below (list not exhaustive) :
- theatre and cinema trips
- bowling
- swimming
- church activities
- social outings (eg shopping trips , museum visits, coastal
excursions)
- evening classes
- horse riding
In addition, holiday vacations are available, with residents
given a choice of possible destinations.
There are two vehicles (a minibus and people carrier) available for
everyday use, in order to increase the choice of social
activities.
Care and support
We provide 24 hour professional care in a communal setting. Our
aim is to provide a relaxed and friendly environment where people
can lead fulfilling and rewarding lives and play a full and active
part in the local community and wider society.
We ensure that:
- privacy and spiritual needs are respected and that dignity is
maintained at all times.
- care is provided in a holistic way, with regular assessments
carried out.
- individuals are supported to achieve as much as possible
through their own efforts, in order to encourage interaction,
participation and a sense of belonging.
An extension of the philosophy of care involves Person Centred
Planning; a project that has been implemented where residents can
identify a certain activity or goal that they would like to
achieve. Residents choose a member of staff or friend to help them
achieve this. Each person's programme is individual and has
been drawn up by them. The benefits are a greater sense of
belonging to the community, a network of friends and more
choices. The quality of life for our residents has been greatly
enhanced by the introduction of the PCP process.
The care team
A dedicated team of highly trained care professionals are on
hand to meet the needs of each resident 24 hours a day. Help with
all aspects of daily living is available and senior members of
staff supervise the administering of any medication. The aim is to
provide assisted independence in a friendly and supportive
atmosphere.
Helping to develop all our care staff to reach their full
potential through training and mentoring is part of the
JRHT philosophy. All staff are encouraged to take advantage of
training courses that are offered by us.This includes NVQ
qualifications and the JRF Certificate in Care and Registered
Managers Award, as well as other supplementary training
programmes.
Each home has its own appropriately qualified manager, who is
responsible for the day to day operational matters. Jill Dunlop is
Head of Adult Services and has over 20 years experience in managing
adult services for the JRHT.
Financial arrangements
Fees are charged weekly and are usually on a contract with
social services . This covers accommodation, food, clothing,
laundry, holidays and other personal items. Respite care fees are
negotiated individually after consultation with residents as to
their suitability. Personal monetary allowances remain the property
of the resident to spend as they wish.
